MOVIE EVENT REPORTS--CAMBRIDGE AND ELSEWHERE
Photos from the Cambridge event...
This past weekend, a ton of Shriek movie events occurred around the country. I'm just now getting reports in about those events. For example, the San Francisco event went very well, with 40 to 50 people showing up at 12 Galaxies to watch the movie and meet The Church, who answered questions about their involvement. The Atlanta event and NYC events were also a blast, although I don't have full reports or photos yet. Here are a few comments from both, though.
San Francisco, from Ken Keegan (Omnidawn):
Yesterday's Shriek movie event at 12 Galaxies went very well--standing room only in the stage area of this bar. We had some issues with some members of The Church coming before others. So I got up before the audience when the show started and announced our planned schedule, and said that this would all now be improvised
based on when the band members arrived. We ran your intro and the KGB reading, and by then Wilson and Tim arrived, and I introduced Dave Barnard and he interviewed them for about twenty minutes, and then Wilson and Tim left. Then we showed the guide to Ambergris, followed by my introduction of Chris Garcia and his short
talk of about 5 minutes, followed by the Shriek movie, which everyone seemed to enjoy.
When Steve and Peter did arrive about 25 minutes later they joined in fun and they were interviewed for about another 25 minutes, including questions from the audience. They had brought more CD albums and signed posters, and we added these to the prizes and started giving away stuff again when the interview finished. Because of the band members coming late at the end, we ran almost an hour later than planned, but Rusty checked in with the bar tender, and he was very understanding. And, he won a CD in the raffle, and that probably helped. In any case, we felt we couldn't close the show with the two band members on their way. And it all worked out.
There was much talk and excitement about the book and the movie.
New York, from Rajan Khanna, who was in attendance:
Just wanted to say that I attended Liz's Shriek event last night in NYC and it was a great time. Everything came together well and the movie was showcased brilliantly. Great job on that, by the way. I even won a bottle of the Ambergris Stout in a raffle drawing. Now I'm of the opinion that since someone went to the effort of making the beer, I should give it a try, but I was advised against it. What do you think? I'd love to try it, but I don't want to wreck the bottle or label with condensation.
Anyway, Liz did a great job in organizing it. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.
(The answer is: always drink the beer...)
I do, however, have photos (above) and a short report from Rob Davies, who organized the Cambridge event at Pandemonium, however.
I'll be on the road at the Southeast Independent Booksellers Association convention in Orlando the 8th, where I'll give the Ambergris multimedia presentation and show the movie at a private party. I'll also be going to Austin and Gainesville (FL), as well as Tallahassee, for more movie showings, with a Chicago showing occurring as well.
