SHRIEK WEBSITE LIVE

The new website has a lot of video elements:

SHRIEK NOVEL WEBSITE
For Immediate Release

The website for Jeff VanderMeer's critically acclaimed Shriek: An Afterword (coming August 8 from Tor Books) is now live at: http://www.shriekthenovel.com.

Created by City of Saints & Madmen designer Garry Nurrish, it features news, video, audio, text, and press kit sections in a seamless format.

Video options include readings, the unique "The Exchange" book-movie and an online version of VanderMeer's "Rough Guide to Ambergris" multimedia presentation, which has been featured at the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis and the Brisbane Writers Festival, among many others.

Audio includes readings from the novel, a selection of the voice track from the forthcoming Shriek movie, and samples from the original soundtrack by The Church. The text section includes excerpts, deleted scenes, and the Shriek movie script.

In September, after the August premiere of the Shriek short movie in 20 cities around the U.S., the Shriek movie will reside on the site. More options for the existing video on the site will be added at that time.

Due to the graphical nature of the site it has been designed to be best viewed on a screen resolution of 1280x1024 or above. Lower screen resolutions should display the site perfectly well and all content will be accessible, but for optimal viewing pleasure 1280x1024 is recommended.

PRIVATE SHRIEK PARTIES IN AUGUST - SEPTEMBER

Dave Larsen Posing with Shriek Movie Poster in Des Moines

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to host a private party around the August release date of Shriek: An Afterword. All of these parties will feature a showing of Shriek: The Movie, a showing of A Rough Guide to Ambergris (a short, humorous movie), and a personalized video message from me. Those who attend will have a chance to win Ambergris beer, swag from rock band The Church, as well as enjoy freebies like Shriek coasters, bookplates signed by me, and listen to the entirety of The Church's 48-minute soundtrack for our little 15-minute Shriek movie. Most parties will have refreshments of some kind. Most parties will also collect orders for Shriek, which will be sent to us. I'll sign all copies before they're sent out and shipping will be free.

Now, these parties are private, but most of the hosts have agreed to allow a small number of extra guests. So if you're in one of these areas and would like to attend, please email me at vanderworld at hotmail.com and I'll see what I can do. I can't guarantee you'll get a guest slot, but you can but try.

Thanks! And thanks again to the hosts. In the next week, I will have a finalized list of the public events occurring at indie theaters, bars, art galleries, etc.

SHRIEK MOVIE IN EUROPE

SHRIEK: THE MOVIE
European Premiere at Finncon

This summer, Finncon in Helsinki will feature the debut of the short film Shriek: An Afterword. There will be additional previews of the film in Lisbon, Berlin, Nottingham (UK), and other European cities. Shriek has an original soundtrack by legendary art-rock band The Church, with a screenplay by World Fantasy Award winning writer Jeff VanderMeer. The film is being directed by Finnish director Juha Lindroos, founding member of the H19 arts group. Shriek is based on VanderMeer's new novel, Shriek: An Afterword, out from Tor Books August 8th.

Finncon is one of Europe’s largest conventions for fans and professionals interested in surreal and fantastical movies, books, videos, graphic novels, music and other media. The bookstore Fnac Colombo (Lisbon), the British Fantasy Convention (Nottingham), and an event with the German SF group Andymon are among the other venues to preview the movie, with more to be announced in the coming months.

Shriek: An Afterward was recently hailed as, “Masterful....fans of Mark Z. Danielewski, Angela Carter and Borges will be well rewarded,” in a starred review from Publishers Weekly.
